Adult Ballet Retreats

SunsetSunsetPerhaps you danced as a child and have always had a lingering desire to take it up again as an adult…perhaps you are simply looking for an alternative ‘healthy holiday’…or then again perhaps you have reached ‘a certain age’ and yet still have a burning and unfulfilled childhood dream….now is the time to let your inhibitions be blown away by the sea breeze and come waft away your worries with us!

All standards and ages welcome – from 18 to 80. It doesn’t matter if you have never even contemplated a pirouette…ex Royal Ballet dancer Francesca Filpi and ex-dancer turned osteopath Jennie Morton, are sure to bring out the dormant ‘ballerina’ in you! Dance to the rhythm of the waves in our open-air studio… the surroundings cannot fail to inspire you! Beginners, Returners and Improvers!

We hold several Adult Ballet Retreats throughout the year - usually in the autumn and spring – and numbers are strictly limited so as to be able to tailor make the course to each participant’s particular level.

A typical day would start with a hearty but healthy Moroccan breakfast (usually fresh fruit, home made yoghurt, freshly baked bread or Moroccan pancakes etc) followed by some gentle structured stretching on one of the roof terraces, or on the huge deserted sandy beach at low tide. Jennie has a wealth of knowledge and experience and will gently guide and reassure you through the steps for preparing your body for dance.

An inspiring ballet class in the open-air studio, with ex Royal Ballet dancer Francesca, will soon have you flying through the air with grace and elegance - even if it is the first time you have donned your ballet shoes - and will work up a good appetite for a home cooked lunch of freshly caught fish perhaps, always with a choice of enticingly fresh salads.

The afternoon might bring a dip in our ‘butterfly pool’ or a spot of sunbathing our the beach...perhaps a little pampering, or a relaxing massage in our traditional Moroccan hammam...not forgetting the all-important ritual of Moroccan tea and cakes! The immediate vicinity offers miles of uninterrupted walks along the coast – or why not saddle up on our resident mule and discover the little stone tracks that criss cross their way through the countryside.

We are happy to organise a wide variety of extra activities and excursions should you wish – please see the Activities page for more details. Jennie can also offer private supplementary osteopathy treatments. As the day draws to a close, sit back and watch the sun set over the sea, cocktail in hand, before savouring local dishes such as succulent tagines and the traditional Moroccan pastilla.

The week will include a visit to the fishing port of Essaouira, with its bustling winding alleyways, spice markets, art galleries, quirky cafes and colourful stalls. Should you wish to extend your holiday in Morocco, we are happy to organise excursions further afield ao the Atla Mountais or the Sahara desert.

The price for the Ballet Retreat includes:

Two/three classes each day

6 nights half board accommodation

Exclusive use of swimming pool, Hammam and all facilities
